I CANNOT TAHAN!

Time flies and we are already in Part 4 of The Mirror Series! For the past few weeks, we talked about issues close to the hearts of teens and this time, we take a good look at an issue that no human being can escape from - pressure. We hear from our very own David Yeow, leader of CampusCity and journalist of New Straits Time newspaper, as he shares about the boiling points of life and how to handle them.

If you're wondering, pressure is a result of an action, or several actions. If I pinch you, my action applies pressure on you and you will feel the pain. Or the tickle.

Being a teenager myself, we all know how vulnerable young people are to succumb and be pressed down by all kinds of pressure from their environment. Speaking from a teenager's point of view, the seemingly tiny issues are enough to make our lives go downside up. We can be so insecure at times and get stressed out by looks, grades, popularity among friends or simply surviving through high school life.

That's why we see the world do all kinds of things just to have that few seconds of relief from the pressure that they are facing. There are people who devour on chocolates, surf the Internet (for whatever reason), shop and window shop, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, do drugs, have sex... The list goes on.

Before we move on, just some words of wisdom by David Yeow:

-- about popularity in school:
  • Find the right friends.
  • You can do without popular friends, but you can't do without good friends.

-- about self image:
  • It's not about looking good, it's about feeling good about yourself. Be confident.
  • We are created in God's image. We are the expression of God.
  • Although inner beauty is more important than outward appearance, do groom yourself well. Look neat and presentable.

-- about grades and studies:
  • Do study well. Stop procrastinating.
  • God honours discipline and hard work. Give your best effort.

When you reach the point of your life where you feel the pressure around you is about to suffocate you, remember this scripture:

Matthew 11:28
Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Of course, this scripture is applicable whenever we feel like the weight of the world is upon our shoulders, or just having bumps and hiccups along the way. Whether we are frustrated, stressed or burdened with any problem at all, God has the solution and that is His promise to us. When Jesus says that He will give you rest, He means that He wants to help you to solve your problems.

As much as we want it to be, life is never a bed of roses. Even Jesus affirms this, that's why He told us in Ephesians 6:11-17 to wear on the full armour of God so that we will stand firm despite problems and attacks.

Hence, we can be in peace knowing that we have God on our side when we have faith and abide in Him (Romans 5:1). You don't have to worry about a thing when you have the God who is all powerful by your side (Genesis 1:3)!

Always know that peace comes through Jesus and Him alone. When the storm is roaring, when times get tough, God wants you to trust Him in EVERY situation.

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

In conclusion, when you 'CANNOT TAHAN', always look to God and you will find peace above the storm. You do not serve philosophies or scientific theories.

You serve a true and living God. And let's not be selfish to share the love of God. People need to know the Source and Giver of Peace as much as we do.

I agree on the making friends with the right people.

A friend of my changed a lot. He's now involve in gangsterism and that scares me a lot. I don't know what actually to do with him. Hanging out with him now is like, so risky because I'm sacred I'll be mark by his "enemies".

All I can do now is to pray for him. Sigh.
